Surface Preparation

Shotblasting:

Essential to the mechanical removal of adhesive residue, epoxy coatings, underlayment compounds and rust on metal such as ship decks. Also used in cleaning of new and old warehouse floors for installation of sealers and epoxy coatings and to remove curing compound from new concrete prior to the installation of floor coverings.

Grinding:

Also good for removing coatings and adhesives. Can be incorporated in flattening concrete slabs when an underlayment is not the best alternative. We have grinders for jobs from 100 to 100,00+ square feet.

The Facts

Shotblasting:

Manufacturers of quality cement and epoxy coatings all agree that mechanical floor preparation, such as shotblasting, is the best way to ensure a quality bond between the existing concrete and the new flooring underlayment. When properly performed, shotblasting creates minimal noise or dust disturbance to areas surrounding the work space.

Grinding:

Grinding can be an acceptable alternative for small jobs or other places where shotblasting is impractical. By using a HEPA vacuum in conjunction with grinding equipment, dust is held to negligible amounts. Grinding is often incorporated into the finishing process of decorative toppings to create a distressed or worn look for added character or individualism.
